What is the Mississippi Sales Tax Rate?

Mississippi has a statewide base sales tax rate of 7%, which applies uniformly across most of the state. However, certain cities may impose additional special-use taxes for specific purposes, such as tourism or infrastructure projects. While local sales taxes are not widespread, it's still important to check if a city has enacted any extra tax rates beyond the statewide 7%.

How to Calculate Sales Tax in Mississippi

Calculating Mississippi sales tax is straightforward, especially since most areas use the same rate. After figuring out the total Sales Tax Rate for your location, follow these steps:

Multiply the Purchase Amount by the Sales Tax Rate to get the Sales Tax Amount

Add the Sales Tax Amount to the Purchase Amount to find the Total Cost

You can use these formulas or use our calculator for a faster answer.

Sales Tax = Purchase Amount × Sales Tax Rate
Total Cost = Purchase Amount + Sales Tax
